Rocky Ridge Trail

About 7 miles south of Carmel, the Rocky Ridge Trail takes hikers high above Soberanes Point, visible in the distance.  By early summer ,when this photo was taken, most of the wildflowers are gone, but this area has spectacular wildflower displays from February into May.

You can see a grouping of the white "snow thistle" here amongst the wild sage and beneath the barren "bush lupine", which some years explodes into a dazzling  bush of greenery and blue&white lupines.  It wasn't until several years later that this bush bloomed --- I had thought it was dead!

For another view of this area, see Soberanes Point.
